Join students, social workers, BASW members and non-members studying, living, or working in the Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire area for the 2025 Annual General Meeting and Festive Fuddle with Poems from Expert by Experience Paul Wiggin.
Programme: Start: 5PM: for festive fuddle 5.30pm- AGM- The Year in Review and committee member votes 6pm – Raffle 7pm – Close
Paul Wiggin is engaged as a sessional employee at the University of Derby since 2016. My role as an Expert by Experience has provided an opportunity to support students in their learning across Health and Social Care, including social work. Whilst having no relevant formal qualifications in social work, I have used 'lived experience' when helping with interviews and contributing to validation panels. My own responses to a lack of self-confidence and upbringing as an adoptee have influenced personal development.
It is likely one of my birth parents had a strong sense of rhythm as I am interested in poetry and tap dancing. These abilities are employed to support community activities, school functions and coffee mornings organised by social prescribers. Most of my working life was spent at Rolls-Royce. If a different career path had been taken, I would have liked the chance to work for The Children's Society or pursued a role in women's football.
Branch elections for committee members will be held 6pm.
Derby and Nottinghamshire based BASW members are encouraged to participate in these elections by nominating themselves or others to join the branch committee and take an active role in the branch.
Further details here:
Only BASW members can put themselves forward for the branch committee and participate in casting their vote on the night.
Nominations can be sent to the branch via the Professional Officer Liz Howard: liz.howard@basw.co.uk
