BASW England Presents: A Celebration of the BASW Capabilities Statements and Toolkit Resources
Join us for this celebratory event which looks at how the Capabilities Statements and the accompanying toolkit resources, for Social Work with Autistic People and People with Learning Disabilities, have been used to support practice over the last five years.
Background
• The Department for Health and Social care commissioned the development of the Capabilities Statements for social work with people with learning disabilities and social work with autistic people in recognition that there has never been any national guidance for social workers practising in this area.
• The Capabilities Statements and the accompanying toolkit resources were co-produced by a group of autistic people, people with learning disabilities, family members, friends, and carers; social workers, and professionals with the British Association of Social Workers (BASW) and in partnership with SCIE and Research in Practice.
• The statements and toolkit resources act as a good practice guide, to develop and strengthen best practice, helping to build confidence, supporting good person-centred communication, developing skills, and encouraging social workers to try new and different ways of working with autistic people including those that are parents.
This event will feature: The premier of the video resource created by Camden Autistic co-researchers. Contributions from people with lived experience including Camden Speaking up and Synergy, Little Venice, Camden Autistic co-researchers. Partners who we have worked with over the years.
Join us for this unique and one off event to find out more about the Capabilities statements and how they can support your practice and hear examples about the difference these resources have made to practice and people’s lives.
