This exciting session has been planned in collaboration between the Chief Social Workers office, DHSC and BASW England. We will welcome a number of speakers who will explore how racial inequalities shape access to, experiences of and outcomes from services.

The session will hear about the work of the Social Care Workforce Race Equality Standard Independent Advisory Group, in terms of challenging the inequalities experienced within the global majority workforce. We will hear from organisations who have taken steps to address these inequalities and promote the role of true allyship within their workforce and wider networks.

It will also be an opportunity to learn about how some organisations have worked creatively to connect with local communities and how this has made a tangible and long-lasting difference to the mental health of Black and minoritised ethnic residents in Brent.

We will provide an opportunity to ask questions, share your own practice experience and spotlight examples of good practice.

Speakers: The session will be chaired by Robert Lewis Mental Health Social Work Lead at the Office of the Chief Social Worker for Adults – DHSC. We are delighted to welcome guest speakers:

• Vava Tampa – Chair of BASW England and Deputy Head of Social Work and Social Care at Central and Northwest London (CNWL) NHS Foundation Trust

• Tricia Pereira – Co Chair of the Social Care Workforce Race Equality Standard, Independent Advisory Group

• Neil Sanyal – social worker and AMHP. He works part-time for Hampshire County Council and has been an ASW/AMHP for 31 years

• Hannah Vaicekauskas – Approved Mental Health Professional Lead at York Council

• Richard Hay – Brent Mental Health Support Worker/The Pathway Project Co-ordinator, Silver Jubilee Park

• Duc Tran – Brent ASC Transformation Programme Manager/Coproduction and Community Partnership Lead

• Bonnie Nelson-iye – Expert By Experience (EBE) in mental health who offers peer support to those facing mental health challenges..
