Appointment of new BASW Cymru Consultant Social Worker – Race
This new role will provide strategic leadership for social work leaders and social work professionals in developing services and providing care and support to people from minority ethnic communities. Forming part of the Welsh Government’s Anti-Racist Wales Action Plan, the will help deliver change for people from minority ethnic communities.
BASW Cymru, part of the wider British Association of Social Workers organisation, is the largest professional membership organisation for social work in Wales. Its mission is to:

- Act for a better society!
They deliver learning and career development opportunities, resources, advice, campaigns and representation.
Funded by Welsh Government and its National Office for Care and Support, Singeta will collaborate with professionals, representative bodies, ADSS, Social Care Wales, CIW, HIW, local authorities, and WLGA to enhance awareness, expand knowledge, pinpoint training opportunities, and showcase success through impact assessments and evaluations of service delivery. She will be guided by a reference group comprising professionals and individuals with lived experience.
Singeta has been a qualified social worker since 1995, with experience in various roles across London, Norfolk, Nottingham, and Wales. She has held frontline and senior leadership positions in diverse settings, including statutory services, the third sector, and higher education, specialising in fostering and adoption, mental health, youth justice, therapy, and social work education. Alongside her social work career, she is a seasoned integrative counsellor and psychotherapist, having provided therapeutic support to children, families, and adults in London and Cardiff. Singeta takes up her role in mid-June.
