BASW Cymru Adroddiad – Mawrth 2014/BASW Wales report – March 2014

Rhaid i bawb ohonom feddwl am y bobl hynny yr effeithiwyd arnynt gan y llifogydd a’r stormydd diweddar. Gan ei fod yn byw yng Ngorllewin Cymru, cafodd Robin Moulster ei effeithio gan yr hinsawdd fwyaf eithafol, yn cynnwys y storom ar 12 Chwefror lle cafwyd gwyntoedd o dros 100 m.y.a. yn y rhan yna o’r wlad.

“Mae amseroedd anodd yn aml yn dod a phobl at ei gilydd am gefnogaeth a chymorth ymarferol,” meddai Robin. “Gadwech i ni gadw’r un gwerthoedd  ac agweddau hyn pan fydd y storom wedi gostegu a thra bo anawsterau bywyd, i lawer o bobl, yn parhau heb y fath gymorth.”

Adroddiad Williams
Cyhoeddwyd Adroddiad Williams tua diwedd Ionawr ac, fel y disgwyliwyd, fe awgrymwyd lleihau’r nifer o awdurdodau lleol yng Nghymru i ddeg, 11 neu 12. Mae llawer o bobl yn gweld y fath beth i fod yn anochel. Ar hyn o bryd fe geir amrywiaethau helaeth ym meintiau awdurdodau lleol sy’n gallu creu 22 o wahanol fersiynau o’r un fath o wasanaethau.

Er bod Llywodraeth Cymru wedi annog gweithio mewn partneriaeth ac i rannu gweithdrefnau, yn aml ni ddigwyddodd hyn neu fe arweiniodd hyn i drafodaethau, dadlau ac ymgecru anodd a chymhleth. Gall nifer llai o awdurdodau mwy golygu bydd y costau rheolaeth yn llai ond, gobeithiwn, yn rhoi mwy o amddiffyniad i wasanaethau’r rheng flaen.

Gweithgareddau BASW Cymru
Mae mis Mawrth am fod yn fis arbennig o brysur i’r holl staff ag aelodau’r pwyllgor yng Nghymru. Ar 13 Mawrth mae gennym gyfarfod pwyllgor ac fe ddilynir hyn  gyda Chyfarfod Blynyddol BASW rhwng 2 a 2.30pm yng Ngwesty Cwm Elan (Elan Valley) yn Rhaeadr Gwy. Mae croeso i bob aelod ddod i’r Cyfarfod Blynyddol, lle cewch y cyfle i glywed am yr hyn a wnaed ac am ddatblygiadau’r flwyddyn ddiwethaf, yn ogystal â chael y cyfle i ofyn cwestiynau.

Ar 18 March fe’n gwahoddwyd i ddathliad Diwrnod Gwaith Cymdeithasol y Byd gan Gyngor Dinas Caerdydd, sydd i’w gynnal yn Neuadd y Ddinas yng Nghaerdydd. Er mai digwyddiad i staff y cyngor yn unig yw hwn, mae’n  enghraifft arall o bartneriaeth gynyddol BASW Cymru gyda bob rhan o gymuned gofal cymdeithasol yng Nghymru.

Y diwrnod canlynol, 19 Mawrth, byddem yn cynnal ein dathliad ein hunain o Ddiwrnod Gwaith Cymdeithasol y Byd mewn partneriaeth â Phrifysgol Caerdydd. Bydd hwn yn agored i aelodau ac mae’n debyg i fod yn ddigwyddiad cyffrous arall.

Mae’r Cyfarfod Blynyddol a dathliad Diwrnod Gwaith Cymdeithasol y Byd ar 19 Mawrth yn agored i aelodau ac fe welir y manylion trwy ymweld â www.basw.co.uk/events neu fe allwch gysylltu trwy ddefnyddio’r manylion a welir ar dudalen 32.
Mae ein darpariaethau ar gyfer ein Cynhadledd Flynyddol bron a gorffen. Fe gynhelir hwn yng Nghanolfan Adnoddau’r Cyfryngau  yn Llandrindod ar 18 Mehefin. Bydd mwy o fanylion yn dilyn yn fuan, felly cofiwch i gadw golwg ar y rhestr o ddigwyddiadau ar y wefan ac i ddarllen eich e-bwletinau yn ofalus.

Gwobrwyon
Fe gyhoeddir y ffurflenni cais ar gyfer Gwobrwyon Gwaith Cymdeithasol Blynyddol BASW Cymru yn fuan.

Rhwydweithiau Annibynnol
Fe gynhelir cyfarfod Rhwydwaith Annibynnol Gogledd Cymru yn swyddfa newydd BASW Cymru, Gogledd Cymru ym Mhlas Eirias, Bae Colwyn, ar 12fed Mawrth rhwng 12 - 2pm. Fe gynhelir cyfarfod nesaf Rhwydwaith Annibynnol De Cymru yn ein swyddfeydd yng Nghaerdydd yn 1 Caspian Point, Caerdydd, ar 9fed Ebrill  rhwng 10am - 12 canol dydd.

Bydd Robin yn  cyflwyno diweddariad ar ddatblygiadau deddfwriaethol a pholisi yng Nghymru i  Rwydwaith De Cymru. Gwnewch yn siŵr o’ch lle i’r  digwyddiadau hyn ar lein os gwelwch yn dda.

Ac yn olaf …
Eleni fe gynhelir Cyfarfod Cyffredinol Blynyddol BASW DU a Chyfarfod Cyffredinol Blynyddol Undeb y Gweithwyr Cymdeithasol (SWU) yn Llundain ar 10fed Mehefin . Mi fyddai’n braf gweld gymaint â phosibl o bobl o Gymru yna i wrando ar y prif siaradwyr, yn cymryd rhan yn y gweithdai, bod yn rhan  o’r drafodaeth ac yn gwyntyllu eu sylwadau. Mae hwn yn gyfnod o newid a thyfiant pellach i’r Gymdeithas, ac yn adeg o wir gyfle i bob un ohonoch fod yn rhan o’r datblygiadau parhaus ym mhob rhan o’r DU.

Gobeithiwn y gwelwn bob un ohonoch yn un o’n digwyddiadau yn fuan. Diolch am eich cefnogaeth barhaus.

We must all spare a thought for those people that have been affected by the floods and storms. Living in West Wales, Robin Moulster has been subject to some of the most extreme conditions, including the storm on 12 February where that part of the country experienced winds in excess of 100mph.

“Difficult times often bring people together for support and practical help,” says Robin. “Let’s keep these same values and attitudes when the weather abates but while the storms of life, for many people, continue without such relief.”

The Williams Report
The Williams Report was released towards the end of January and unsurprisingly has recommended a reduction in the number of local authorities in Wales to ten, 11 or 12. Many people see such a move as an inevitability. Currently, there are large variations in sizes of local authorities which can result in 22 different versions of similar services.

Although the Welsh Government has encouraged partnership and shared arrangements, these have often not happened or have led to tortuous discussions, debates and wrangles. A smaller number of larger authorities could mean lower management costs but, we hope, more protection for frontline services.

BASW Cymru activity
March will be an extremely busy month for all staff and committee members in Wales. On 13 March we have a committee meeting followed by BASW Cymru’s Annual Meeting between 2-3.30pm at the Elan Valley Hotel in Rhayader. All members are welcome to the Annual Meeting, where you will be able to hear about progress and developments over the past 12 months, as well as having the opportunity to ask questions.

On 18 March we have been invited to a World Social Work Day celebration hosted by Cardiff City Council, to be held at the City Hall in Cardiff. Although this event is only open for council staff, it is another example of BASW Cymru’s growing partnership with all parts of the social care community in Wales.

The following day, 19 March, we are having our own celebration for World Social Work Day, hosted by, and in partnership with, Cardiff University. This is open to members and promises to be another exciting event.

Both the Annual Meeting and the World Social Work Day celebration on 19 March are open to members and details can be seen by visiting www.basw.co.uk/events  or can get in touch using the details on page 32.

Planning for our Annual Conference is almost complete. This will be held at the Media Resource Centre in Llandrindod Wells on 18 June. Further details will follow soon, so please keep checking the events listing on the website and look closely at your e-bulletins.

Awards
Application forms for the BASW Cymru Annual Social Work Awards will be published soon. Please look out for these on our website and on e-bulletins. These will offer a good opportunity to celebrate the excellent practice of our colleagues across Wales – whether they are BASW members or not.

Independents Networks
The next North Wales Independents Network is being held at our new BASW Cymru North Wales office at Plas Eirias in Colwyn Bay, 12-2pm. The next South Wales Independents Network will take place at our Cardiff offices at 1 Caspian Point, Cardiff, between 10am-12 noon.

Robin will be providing the South Wales network with an update on current legislative and policy developments in Wales. Please book online to secure your place at either of these events.

And finally …
This year, the BASW UK Annual General Meeting and Social Workers Union (SWU) AGM will be held in London. It would be great to see as many people from Wales as possible to listen to keynote speakers, take part in workshops, be part of the debate and air their views. This is a period of further change and growth for the Association, and a time of real opportunity for each of you to be part of its continued development in all parts of the UK.

We hope to see you all at one of our events soon. Thank you for your continuing support.
