Funding Opportunity to attend IFSW Europe Regional Conference

The International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW) is the global body representing social work and social workers. BASW is a member of IFSW. Every two years IFSW Europe holds its regional conference. In 2023 it is being held in Prague.

These conferences provide an excellent opportunity for social workers in the UK to meet with and learn from social workers from across Europe through talks, workshops, discussions and social events.

To encourage the participation of social work students, NQSW and ASYE, frontline social workers, Practice Managers/Team Managers, the International Development Fund is giving away 15 grants, each worth up to £1,000*  (See also: "The Small Print (Terms and Conditions)").

To apply for a grant tell us in 300 words why you want to attend the conference, what you hope to gain from attending and what you hope to do with the experience.

Applications that meet these criteria will go forward for grant allocation. If there are more applicants than grants, grants will be allocated by a draw.

*In line with BASW’s Statement to ‘Reduce, Recycle, Re-use and Reform’ successful applicants who wish to travel by train will receive a grant of up to £1,300 to reflect the higher cost of travelling by rail. If you are interested in this option include this as part of your statement.

** The Small Print (Terms and Conditions)

(2) Applicants must have been BASW members for at least 12 months.

(3) Applicants must be registered social workers and can be front-line social workers, practice managers/team managers, social work students or academics.

(4) BASW Council members, BASW members on official BASW business and BASW employees are not eligible to apply.

(5) Applicants must not have previously received a grant from the International Development Fund (IDF) in the last 36 months.

(6) Applicants must submit their 300 words together with their name, contact details and their current role by the 31 March 2023 at the latest to policyadmin@basw.co.uk

(7) IDF reserves the right to verify an applicant’s status.

(8) Successful applicants will need to make their own arrangements with their employer/university/practice placement for the necessary time off either through study leave, training day allowance, annual leave or other arrangements to attend the conference

(9) Successful applicants will be responsible for their own passport/visa arrangements.

(10) Successful applicants will be required to attend the conference for the full duration of the event i.e. 21st to 24th May 2023.

(11) Successful applicants will be required to attend a reception and photo-op at the conference organised by BASW.

(12) The conference fee (€400) element of the grant will be paid directly to the conference organisers. No cash alternative will be provided.

(13) The remaining amount of the grant is for the successful applicant’s travel, accommodation, food and drink. Any costs incurred by the applicant in excess of this amount will not be reimbursed.

(14) Payments for alcoholic drink will not be reimbursed

(15) Preferred practice is for costs to be reimbursed after the conference has taken place. If attendance is not possible without some advance funding, please make this clear in your application and let us know why. However, advance funding is not guaranteed.

(17) Applicants will need to provide full receipts to demonstrate the costs incurred.

(18) If successful candidates need to withdraw from attendance prior to the conference they must inform the IDF of their reasons immediately at policyadmin@basw.co.uk
