SASW are calling on the Scottish Government to offer social workers and social care workers a fair mileage rate, on a par with NHS colleagues, for travel while working.
This is a budget focused on delivering tax cuts that will disproportionately benefit the wealthiest, while those on lower incomes, Universal Credit and disability benefits are left facing the brunt of inflation and long-term unaffordability in many aspects of life.
Seventeen inspiring social workers, teams and organisations have been honoured for their outstanding achievements and described as ‘ambassadors for the profession’ after they took home top prizes at the national Social Worker of the Year Awards 2018.
‘Imposing another age of austerity after the coronavirus crisis will have a profound impact on societies most vulnerable people’ suggests John McGowan, General Secretary, Social Workers Union (SWU). ‘The possible extent and impact on local authorities' social care budgets will also be massive but cutting spending, after a decade of cuts, would be hugely damaging’.
